My Book Reviews

Four Children and It

Written by: Jacqueline Wilson

Book Review by: Charlotte Lane (age 11)

In this book, there are 4 children. Rosalind, Robbie, Smash and little Maudie. Rosalind and Robbie hated Smash, and she hated them back. But one special picnic trip brought them all together.

Recently Rosalind has read a book called 'Five Children and It', and that story came to life for them at one very special park. They could grant wishes and they had the fun of there lives. But could they keep going there everyday without anyone suspecting them? And who is it?

My favourite part in this book is when the four children could fly all over town, and how they were tricking people to believe they were magical creatures. I loved how they all got along in the end, and how they respected the it creature even if he looked a bit strange.

Read this amazing book because it might inspire you to write a book of your own, or to have a great imagination like Jacqueline Wilson.

4 Children and It

Demon Dentist

Written by: David Walliams

Book Review by: Charlotte Lane (age 11)

In this book, there are hundreds of small innocent children who need to get a dentist appointment, but there is only one dentist, the demon dentist. The demon dentist hates children and only became a dentist because she wanted to steal childrens teeth.

Alfie is a boy who's teeth is rtting and is forced to go to the dentist, yet nobody knew how he came out with no teeth left. Alfie and his friends find spy on Miss Root the demon and figure out her secret. Do you think Alfie is up for the job? Or will he end up food for Miss Root's cat?

I loved this book because it's very spooky and amusing, and my favourite character was Alfie's dad. I thought it was cool how instead of finding a golden coin under a children's pillow after they lost there tooth, they'd find a spooky object like a wing's bat or a zombie's eyeball. I would recommend this story to people who like scary books.

Read this book if you dare!

Written by: Raina Telgemeier

Book Review by: Charlotte Lane (age 11)

This children’s book is based on a true story from the author’s life. It's interesting and has great humour.

This book talks about a normal teenager who is struggling with her friendships and her average life. Raina then goes through a frustrating journey injuring her front two teeth and needing to wear headgear at night for the time being. She was worried for days and refused to be happy for a long time, and her friends were bullying her and kept making her feel like the bottom. She keeps them as her fridn through the years but then decided enough was enough.

Raina dumped her friends and found new ones.

I honestly really loved this book because it tells you about all that might happen through the years and the difficulties you might have to go through. It was an interseting read and it might encorouage others to stand up for themselves when necessary. It's a five star rating book!

The Girl Without A Voice

The Girl Without A Voice

Written by: Casey Watson

Book Review by: Charlotte Lane (age 11)

This true story is about a girl who has selective mutism due to family distress. When she has to go to school everyone is curious on why she doesn't speak, especially Imogen's teacher, Casey.

Casey is on a mission trying to find out Imogen's secret and slowly she starts to trust and get comfortable around Casey and starts opening up to her. She tells Casey her problems starting by small words then she tells her the whole story about her step mum and everything.

I recommend this book to all readers because it was such a warming story and I think Imogen had a lot of resilience for what she was going through. I was sitting at the edge of my chair for every page I turned and was waiting for the truth to come out.

Please read this book it was very exciting figuring out whats to happen next!

The Treasure Seekers

Written by: Elisabetta Dami

Book Review by: Charlotte Lane (age 11)

This book is about mystery and friendship, the Thea sisters are on a trip to Scotland and they come across some bad weather. They meet a kind old lady and learn her story, because of this they end up running back and fourth through this crazy adventure.

The Thea sisters had to beat filthy thieves to the treasure in the Alabaster Garden before they stole it and took it for themselves. The Thea sisters were hoping to find the treasures and place it in the museum to share the beuty with everyone, they are truly wonderful mouselets.

I really loved this book because it shows a lot of cooperative and helping others to be able to accomplish their mission. They worked together and were a trustful group to be around. This is an adventure story and they had to travel all around the world.

Please read this creative story because it will teach you loads of lessons about getting along and will help your imagination.

Laugh Your Head Off 4 Ever

Laugh Your Head Off 4 Ever

Written by: Andy Griffiths, James Roy, Felice Arena, Matt Stanton, Lisa Shanahan, Penny Tangey, Marcus Emerson, Yvett Poshoglian and Katrina Nannestad

Book Review by: Charlotte Lane (age 11)

This book has so many silly and creative stories conatined but written by different authors. Every story has great humour with in and will make us all laugh our heads off 4 ever!

The first story is about a naked toddler, Andy in a pram that is going downhill fast! The owner was playing with him teasingly when he accidentally let go unwillingly. The pram is going full speed down the road and he can only use the toys in his pram to help stop him. But he causes some bad attraction from the neighborhood. How does he end up stopping? What if he crosses a red light?

My favourite story in the book is called 'Evil Genius' though. It's about a family of two children and the mum finds out a way to keep their kids quiet on a long road trip. So the mum buys a packet of lollies and says to the kids 'whatever is left in this packet by the end of the trip, you get to eat it all'. What do you think is going to happen? Why?

Read this book to find out what other fun stories are written, and trust me you'll want to read this book again.

Aarti & the Blue Gods

Written by: Jasbinder Bilan

Book review by: Charlotte Lane (age 11)

I love this book because its about a little girl named Aarti who has lost everything and needs to find a way out of her stranded island. Aarti is a brave young girl that has a big heart and just wants for the truth about her parents to come out.

When Aarti's aunt died, all of the family secrets disappeared with her, even the escape path from the island. Aarti then meets a boy and as soon as they get to know each other well, she figures that he's keeping a secret from her.

She plays along and works with him to get back to their original home.

I really liked this book because Aarti had a lot of courage and never gave up at all. The start of the book was the most interesting part for me and usually in other books it starts near the middle. Give this book a go and have a look.

Join the adventure!

Book Review by: Charlotte Lane (age 12)

Don’t you hate it when someone sneaks behind you and scares you? Well that’s the same with Lou. Except she gets frightened with worse too. She starts to have panic attacks with loud noises, or when someone tries to hold her hand. With help from the people around her she soon finds out she has a sensory processing disorder.

She also makes loads of friends which help her get past her worries. She wouldn’t have met Maxwell if she hadn't crashed the pickup when she lived with her mum. Lou used to miss her mum but once she got used to her being away she didn’t seem to miss her mum as much. She also had another problem. Lou has a wonderful voice but is too scared to use it. All her life her mum has forced her to sing in front of large audiences because her mum thought she sounded like heaven, and she was right. A play was coming up and one of the singers was off near the end of the concert and Lou was the only free person that knew the entire song. Could she have the courage to sing in front of hundreds of people?

I recommend this book to all readers and give it a five star rating because I got hooked into the story as soon as I flipped the first page. I also had a mixture of emotions as I got further through the story and sometimes felt like melting because it was a warming novel.

Pls everyone read!

Pearly and Pig and the Great Hairy Beast

Written by: Sue Whiting

Book Review by: Charlotte Lane (age 12)

This story contains adventure and travel and a fluent human in many languages - including animals.

Pearly lost her parents and pig to an evil hunter, Emmeline and she can't stop thinking about her parents expectations. But that's not all, they also left her a strange phone call and note that sounded nothing at all like them. In their note they had misspelt words and they even said that her Grandma Woe was coming to look after her! Firstly she lived no where near her, and secoundly her parents know that she calls her by her full name. Is this too much for an Adventureologist-in-training? What if she also found out that the boat Emmeline bordered with Pig, her parents weren't in sight? Why did she even want Pig?

This book is 100% recommended especially to pig lovers. What I really like about it was how they included so many charactes that where both on the good side and supporting the hunter. They made this book so that you would stay on a cliffhanger whenever you closed the book. Pig was so cute in my opinion and I was surprised the way Pearly and Pig could communicate.

If you love treasure, scubadiving or pirates then this is a book for you. Jack, Amelia and Xander are friends and one day on vacation they decided to go diving for treasure. Jack decided to go out further looking for treasure one day until he realised his mistake. On their way back after finding a few expensive rings they see a boat on fire with a little boy on board.

Soon they found out they had been tricked by pirates and got sent to militia training camp to train for being soldiers. They decided to run away but if they did the General Sir would chase his dogs after them. What is Jack's plan? Will he make it out alive or get shot in the head?

I would recommend this book for 7+ because it did have a few tricky words. My favourite part was when the pirates took hold of Jack and his friends boat and tied them up. This book has a little humour but 100 times adventure.

Trust me, it's a fun and adventurous read!

The Star Outside My Window

Book Review By: Charlotte Lane (age 12)

If you've ever been in foster care then you'll know how Aniyah and Noah must feel when they first arrive in a foster home. Aniyah doesn't really worry about the new place that much, she mostly worries about her parents and her silver locket is the only thing keeping them together.

Aniyah wants to be a star hunter, or as everyone else calls it, an astronomer. She's trying to find her mum up in the sky when one day she finds a clue on television about a new star that appeared a few days ago. She visited the website but know she has a new problem to fix. People want to name this star but Aniyah wants to tell them that the star already has a name. Aniyah makes a plan with her new foster care friends and her little brother, but will it succeed with Sophia in the way? A girl that wants to wreck there plans. What do you think?

This book was amazing and it is very detailed. I would recommend it for everyone old and young. My favourite part in the story was when Aliyah snuck into Mrs I's office and lied about what she was doing and instead was making a plan to escape at Halloween to find her mum's star.

This is a must read book.

In this book there's Rixon, he got a whole enitre island from his Uncle Silvester's will! But there was a slight problem, no one actually believed that this island existed. Was it because his uncle was just going mad? Or was something or someone hiding this island?

I loved this book especially when Rixon stole someones boat to find Splinter island. I recommend this book to people all ages and people who love mystery and adventure stories.
